Amagansett has the biggest tennis club on the fork and the most public courts on one road. Abrahams Path holds SPORTIME’s 33 Har-Tru courts and the John McEnroe Tennis Academy at number 320, and the Town’s four public courts at 306 and 385, so a family here can walk from a Town clinic to an academy group. SPORTIME runs a seven-month season, mid-April to early November, and sells non-members instruction with a surcharge; the Town runs youth clinics in spring, summer and fall and posts a rule against unauthorised commercial activity on its courts. On the ocean side the Further Lane estates have their own courts and the wind to go with them. The coaches we send to Amagansett teach on Abrahams Path already.
What's different about Amagansett
SPORTIME Amagansett’s 33 Har-Tru courts and the John McEnroe Tennis Academy on Abrahams Path, the Town’s four public courts on the same road at Lt. Lee Hayes Youth Park and the Abrahams Path facility, the Devon Yacht Club’s courts on the bay behind its gates, and the Further Lane estates with courts of their own.
- Abrahams Path is the tennis road of the South Fork: the Town of East Hampton’s two courts at Lt. Lee Hayes Youth Park (306 Abrahams Path), two more at the Abrahams Path Recreational Facility (385), and SPORTIME Amagansett at 320, a 25-acre club with 33 Har-Tru courts and four pickleball courts, open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily from mid-April through the first week of November, with no indoor courts.
- SPORTIME is home to the John McEnroe Tennis Academy’s red, orange, green and yellow ball groups for ages 3–18, adult clinics, Cardio Tennis, a Tennis Happy Hour and the East Hampton Sports Camp with daily tennis and swim; members get unlimited court time, non-members book clinics, camps and private instruction with a surcharge.
- The Town’s youth tennis clinics run in spring, summer and fall at Lt. Lee Hayes Youth Park with online registration; the Town publishes no fee for the courts themselves, and its posted rules bar unauthorised commercial activity on them.
- The 12th Johnny Mac Tennis Project Pro-Am was played at SPORTIME on August 24, 2026: 128 pros and amateurs, more than 400 attending, more than $550,000 raised, John and Patrick McEnroe and Mats Wilander on site.
- Amagansett had 1,824 residents at the 2020 Census and one of East Hampton’s largest collections of estates along Further Lane, where the private courts are; the Devon Yacht Club on Gardiner’s Bay is private and takes non-members only with a member.
Public courts in Amagansett are run by the Town of East Hampton Recreation Department (Lt. Lee Hayes Youth Park and the Abrahams Path Recreational Facility).

FAQ
Questions Amagansett players and parents ask
How much do private tennis lessons cost in the Hamptons?
About $175–190 an hour at the one Hamptons club that publishes a rate: Ross School Tennis Center in East Hampton charges $175 on weekdays and $190 on weekends and holidays in 2026. New York coaches list $65–190 a lesson, with named coaches at $100–150, and the national average is $113 with a $62–204 range (Thumbtack). The other Hamptons clubs quote through booking portals, and the coaches we work with sit around the Ross number in season. Add the court if you have none: Montauk Downs rents Har-Tru at $44 an hour ($24 for members), Southampton Village sells a $25 season permit, and club memberships with court time run from $2,547 (individual) to $6,000+ (family). A summer of twelve weekly lessons at the published rate is about $2,100.

The programmes here take children from 3: SPORTIME Amagansett’s John McEnroe Tennis Academy groups run for ages 3–18 on the red, orange, green and yellow ball progression, Future Stars’ Little Stars take 3–5 and its Rising Stars 2.5–7, and the Town of East Hampton’s youth clinics run in spring, summer and fall. The equipment agrees: junior racquets run 17–21 inches at ages 3–5 ($35–59), 23 inches at 6–8, 25 inches at 9–10 and 26 inches from 11. What the age should be is a question about the child, not the calendar; we could not read a governing body’s guidance on it, so we do not print a rule. Our advice is a red-ball group for a small child and a private lesson only once the child asks for one.

No. Montauk Downs State Park rents its six Har-Tru courts to anyone at $44 an hour ($24 for members) from mid-May to October; the Village of Southampton sells a court permit at $25 (individual) or $75 (family); Sag Harbor’s Mashashimuet Park, 8 clay and 2 hard courts, is a nonprofit’s public facility with lessons, clinics and a camp; Ross School Tennis Center’s six Hydro Har-Tru courts are open to the public and under a bubble in winter, with private lessons at $175–190; SPORTIME Amagansett sells non-members clinics, camps and private instruction with a surcharge; and the East Hampton Tennis Club teaches non-members. The Town of East Hampton’s public courts in Springs, Amagansett and Montauk post a rule against unauthorised commercial activity, so a paid lesson there needs the Recreation Department’s say-so. A coach with a court of their own is the other answer.

A group for a child who is new, young or there for the fun: the ball comes from a coach, a feeder and other children, the hour is games, and the price is shared — a camp week is $1,045–1,595 in Southampton and $1,095 on the East Hampton tennis track in 2026, and the Town of East Hampton runs youth clinics in spring, summer and fall. A private for a child with a specific stroke to fix, a tournament to prepare for, or a temperament that shrinks in a crowd; the published Hamptons rate is $175–190 an hour against a $113 national average. Most children here do both: a group for the season and a private when the group has found the problem. The good coaches will tell you which the child needs, and we ask them to.
What does a public tennis court cost in the Hamptons?
From nothing published to $44 an hour. Montauk Downs State Park rents its six Har-Tru courts at $44 an hour, $24 for members, from mid-May to October. The Village of Southampton sells a season permit at $25 for an individual and $75 for a family, plus a $150 key-fob deposit refunded if the fob comes back by December 31. The Town of Southampton’s 2026 fee schedule prices basketball and bocce courts at $20 an hour and lights at $40 but has no tennis line at all. The Town of East Hampton publishes no fee or hours for its courts in Springs, Amagansett and Montauk, only rules: one hour when others are waiting, no dogs, no unauthorised commercial activity. Sag Harbor’s Mashashimuet Park, a nonprofit’s 8 clay and 2 hard courts, publishes no fee either.
What do RSPA (formerly USPTA) and PTR certifications mean?
They are the two American coaching credentials. The RSPA, the Racquet Sports Professionals Association, is the former USPTA (its old address now sends you to rspa.net) with 14,000-plus members and four levels: Instructor ($249 to apply plus $235 a year), Professional ($499 plus $335 a year), Elite Professional (an upgrade with on-court testing, $129) and Master Professional (ten or more years as an Elite plus 80 hours of specialty study). RSPA dues include on-court liability insurance for teaching, and its directory at members.rspa.net verifies a coach in a minute. The PTR, the Professional Tennis Registry, is the other body; its site would not load for us, so we do not quote its terms. Neither certification is a background check: we ask every coach for a current screening separately, and the US Center for SafeSport’s core course takes about 90 minutes with a trained status good for 12 months.
How does Hamptons Ace Tennis work?
You tell us about the player once: who is learning, their level, what kind of lessons, when, and where in the Hamptons you are based. We put you in touch with one coach who teaches that age and level in your part of the fork, certified by the RSPA or the PTR and background-checked, and they call you within one business day. From there it is their rate, their schedule and their court, or yours. It is free for players and parents; participating coaches pay us a referral fee for the introduction. We are not a club, a camp or a coaching business, and we do not sell your details; the one coach we send you to is the only one who gets your number. We cover 9 South Fork towns and 6 kinds of coaching.
